Tutorial: Tag Mini Album

This week, Crafter's Companion and Spectrum Noir are sponsoring the challenge over at the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog.  The challenge this week is to use a tag on your project.  You can create anything from a handmade gift tag to a tag mini album, as long as you add tags to a scrapbook layout or a greeting card. Using some tags that Trena had on hand, she made this amazing tag book.

Here's what she shared on her blog this week:

I pulled out the tags I have in my stash and to my surprise it was a lot!

I decided to make a tag journal - a journal of different techniques that I can refer to for ideas. I used a spiral tag journal - which I've had sooooo long, the company went out of business. You can also use loose tags and put them together with a ring, adhere them in a journal book, or slide them into a binder. Below, I've included photos and supplies I used on tags inside the journal

For this technique I used Fireworks Sprays - rosebud red, lady bug, tangelo - with a stencil. I sprayed through the stencil on one tag, then flipped the stencil over onto another tag  and pressed down to get the negative image.  Look at that beautiful sheen!

For this one I sprayed water directly onto the right tag, then spritzed color - danube blue, grape jelly, paris dusk, lady bug,  then pressed a clean tag over it to get two for one.  The wet side blended nicely and the dry side gave a speckled look - I dig both! NOTE: the colors dry a little lighter than when they are wet.

After it completely dried I stamped the table image from Sheena's A Little Bit Scenic - Silhouette Garden on the blended side with a Memento Luxe Ink Pad - Wedding Dress, sprinkled with emboss powder and heat set.

To add dimension to the table and chairs, I used Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils 080, 082Spectrum Noir Blending Solution and a Spectrum Noir Paper Stump.

For the cover, I spritzed water then sprayed paris dusk, pear tart, summer sky.  After it dried completely, I stamped the butterfly images from Paint Fusion EZMount Stamp Set - Butterfly with Delicata Golden Glitz ink pad, sprinkled with emboss powder and heat set.  I poured small amounts of  summer sky, cottage green, paris dusk and rose bud into a little plastic pallet and used a water-brush to paint the butterflies. The sparkle from the sprays is so pretty!

I deepened the colors and added detail in the butterflies with Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils 031, 072.

For this tag, I sponged over a piece of cardstock from a scalloped die cut with an Ink Sweeper and Radiant Neon ink pad - electric blue and then stamped flowers from Sheena's A Little Bit Scenic - Silhouette Garden in electric purple, electric pink, electric coral and electric orange.

The next one is one of my favs. I spritzed Fireworks Sprays - dandelion, cottage ivy and pear tart. I first tried spritzing directly to the stamp, but I did not get the detail I wanted. I spritzed color onto felt then tapped that onto the rubber (image from Sheena's A Little Bit Scenic - Silhouette Garden) and then stamped onto the tag. I dig the subtle shimmering detail!

NOTES
(1)  I laid down a piece of card stock under the tags when I sprayed to catch all the yummy ink colors. I'll use them later as backgrounds for something else.
(2) Because I used both sides of the tags, the colors did bleed through. Since I was using sprays and layers of color, the extra color just added to the effect on the following tag.
(3) I did not fill in all the pages. It's a journal - a work in progress. I'll fill the pages in time. :)
