Tutorial: Watercoloring with Spectrum Noir Refill Inks

Trena is sharing one of her favorite techniques - a watercolor effect with Spectrum Noir Ink Refills! This sweet, romantic image is from one of Sheena Douglass' newest Christmas sets - Aspects - Country Christmas.

Trena built her palette of colors based on a color wheel she made with Spectrum Noir markers. Then using a painting palette, she added drops of ink inside the wells. Even though it dries in the little cups, it reactivates when alcohol is added.

She stamped the image onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and traced the outside of the large rectangle from the Die'sire Decorative Dies - Nouveau Stamping Frame around a section of the scene.

To color, she picked up the rich ink with a paintbrush that had been dipped in alcohol. For darker areas, she uses less alcohol, more ink and for lighter areas more alcohol, less ink.

NOTE: the ink will dry fast so it's best to work in one area at a time. Trena uses different size brushes to fill in the rest of the scene

TIP: If you need to lighten an area or if you get ink someplace you don't want it, use the blender to remove it.  She worked in one area at a time filling in color, cleaning the brushes with alcohol in-between colors.

woman's tights, shoes, gloves: True Black

greenery: CG2, GB6

For the final touch, she used Shimmering Cardstock (Black Pearl) to cut the decorative frame from the Nouveau Stamping Frame and added a little snow with a white paint pen.  Isn't this amazing?
