Tutorial: Flower Surprise Box

Create a surprise box for a friend or loved one. Annie shows you how with her step by step tutorial, follow it and make your own beautiful surprise box!

Crafter's Companion Supplies:

Other Supplies: Black Satin Ribbon, Transparent Thread or Fishing Line, White Embossing Powder and Glue Dots.

Step 1: Cut a piece of patterned paper from the Sweet Treats Card Pack to 5” by 5”. Add an even coat of BP5 to brighten the entire piece.

Step 2: Place the pink panel against the “Box Lid” ledge on the box-making board of the Ultimate Tool and score each side using the second score line.

Step 3: Repeat these steps with a 8” by 8” piece of Black Pearl Shimmering Cardstock – this time use the “Box Base” side of the board and score each side using the fifth score line. Cut the scored pieces as shown to form tabs for assembly.

Step 4: Fold the paper on its score lines and glue the corners of the box lid together. Cut and emboss Black Pearl Shimmering Cardstock with the “Love” die and adhere it to the top and sides of the lid with liquid adhesive.

Step 5: Fold the cardstock on its score lines and glue the corners of the box base together. Cut Black Pearl Shimmering Cardstock with the “Anemone” die and emboss the sentiment from the “Just a Note” stamp set using Versamark ink and white embossing powder. Score and fold an 8” by 0.5” piece of Black Pearl Shimmering Cardstock at 2”, 4”, 6”, and 7”.

Step 6: Color onto the “Anemone” stamp with two coordinating colors of Spectrum Aqua markers. Lightly mist the stamp with water if desired.

Step 7: Stamp the image onto Crafter’s Companion Watercolor Cardstock. With a slightly damp (not wet) brush, pull some of the color out from the stamped lines and blend the two colors together. Repeat to create seven more watercolored flowers.

Step 8: Once dry, cut the images out and curl the petals upward. Cut a coordinating shadow layer for each flower using Black Pearl Shimmering Cardstock and the “Anemone” die.

Step 9: Beginning with the sentiment flower and continuing until all of the flowers have been used, sandwich a piece of transparent thread or fishing line between the shadow layer and the colored layer using a glue dot.

Step 10: Space flowers about a half-inch apart and alternate colors to create a bright and cheery string.

Step 11: Attach one end of the accordion-folded piece of cardstock to the inside bottom of the box and the other end to the back of the sentiment flower with adhesive.

Step 12: Gently place the string of flowers inside the box and adhere the final flower to the inside of the lid with adhesive.

Step 13: Embellish the box lid with ribbon and the corners of the box base with die-cut trimmings from the “Joy” die.

Step 14: Enjoy the reaction when the recipient opens your unique gift box.
