Tutorial: Lined Gift Box

Jodi shows you step-by-step how you can create a lined box, which is perfect for so many different occasions throughout the year!

Crafter's Companion Supplies:

Other supplies: Patterned paper, Ribbon, Colorbox liquid chalk (Dark Brown and Maroon)

For this tutorial you will need pieces of Crafter's Companion construction cardstock cut to the following sizes:

One piece 12" x 12"
One piece 8" x 8"
Two pieces 2" x 7.875" (7-7/8")

Let's start with making the box lid.

Step One: Using the Big Score scoring board, score a 12" x 12" piece of construction cardstock on all 4 sides at 1" and 4.125" (4-1/8"). After completing scoring on all 4 sides, line up the cardstock on the score board again and at the 3.5" mark, start scoring at the left edge of the cardstock and only score to the 4-1/8" score line. Repeat on the right side of the cardstock, scoring from the right edge back in to the 4.125" score line. Rotate the cardstock 180 degrees and again at the 3.5" mark, start scoring at the left edge of the cardstock and only score to the 4-1/8" score line. Repeat on the right side of the cardstock, scoring from the right edge back in to the 4.125" score line.

Step two: Trim away the four corner sections and miter the remaining glue flaps.

Step Three: Fold all panels on the score lines. Assemble using basic box construction, gluing the side panels to the mitered glue flaps. The four outside end pieces tuck and glue to the inside of the lid to form a nice finished edge.

Now let's start on the box base.
Step One:Using the Big Score scoring board, score an 8" x 8" piece of construction cardstock on all 4 sides at 1" and 2.125" (2-1/8"). After completing scoring on all 4 sides, line up the cardstock on the score board again and at the 1.5" mark, start scoring at the left edge of the cardstock and only score to the 2-1/8" score line. Repeat on the right side of the cardstock, scoring from the right edge back in to the 2-1/8" score line. Rotate the cardstock 180 degrees and again at the 1.5" mark, start scoring at the left edge of the cardstock and only score to the 2-1/8" score line. Repeat on the right side of the cardstock, scoring from the right edge back in to the 2-1/8" score line.

Step Two: Trim away the four corner sections and miter the remaining glue flaps. Fold on all score lines and glue side panels to glue flaps. Outside flaps will tuck to the inside of the box base, giving it a nice finished look.

Finally lets make the box base liner.
Step One: Take two 2" x 7-7/8" pieces of construction cardstock and score them at 5/8" at 4-1/4". Fold on score lines, glue panels together using the 5/8" sections as glue flaps.

Step Two: Here is the box liner (left) and box base (right).

Step Three: Glue the box liner to the inside edge of the box base.

Step Four: Here is the completed box lid (left) and box base (right). The finished size is 4 1/4" tall x 3 3/4" wide (square). If desired, decorate the box for a finishing touch.

Here, Jodi used patterned paper and ribbon to decorate the box lid and base.
